More people with diabetes now have the opportunity to use strip-free testing
Roche in the UK has launched the next generation of the popular Accu-Chek® Mobile blood glucose monitoring system. The new Accu-Chek Mobile system offers a smart and sleek design allowing it to be carried in any handbag or pocket, making it easier for more people with diabetes using insulin to test their blood glucose levels at any time, no matter where they are.
The user-friendly, strip-free and innovative design has helped the Accu-Chek Mobile system secure a prestigious Red Dot Design Award for the second year in a row. Winning the ‘product design’ category, the Accu-Chek Mobile system was selected from over 4,000 designs from around the world. The Award jury commended its unique strip-free element; outstanding design attributes which include intuitive handling, high level of innovation, functionality, ecological compatibility and quality.
Speaking about the product launch and award win, Brett Lewis, Director of Diabetes Care UK & Ireland at Roche, said: “Having revolutionised self-testing thanks to its unique strip-free technology, the new Accu-Chek Mobile system continues to offer intuitive features that allow for easy and convenient testing whenever, wherever without the need for strips. Winning the Red Dot Design Award is further proof of the device’s user-friendly design.”
The Accu-Chek Mobile system features strip-free technology in the form of 50 tests on a continuous tape. Unlike traditional single-strip systems, obtaining a blood sample and performing a blood glucose measurement only involves just four simple steps, which is particularly valued by people with diabetes using insulin who have to test their blood glucose levels several times a day.
Users of the new Accu-Chek Mobile system are impressed. Ken Johnson from Stockport, said: “I’ve found that since I’ve been using the Mobile I haven’t been afraid of using it. I don’t find it bruises or leaves my fingers tender. So now I’m testing four times a day. I feel a good deal better and more inclined to do something about my diabetes.”
Patrice Kelly from Belfast, said: “The new meter means I can test within five to seven seconds. I simply take the Mobile out of my bag, I open the bottom and it tells me how many tests I have left and reminds me to wash my hands. I prick my finger and place the blood on the bottom of the strip and a few seconds and there’s the result!”

The Accu-Chek Mobile system
The Accu-Chek Mobile system is Roche Diabetes Care’s strip-free blood glucose monitoring system with 50 tests on a continuous tape. This makes blood glucose monitoring even easier, as people with diabetes do not need to handle or dispose of single test strips or lancets. This enables people with diabetes to check their blood glucose (bG) levels virtually whenever and wherever they want, without causing any unnecessary waste.
The newly launched advance Accu-Chek Mobile is now reduced by one third – slim and thin enough to be carried in any handbag or pocket. Hence, people with diabetes are able to test their bG levels at any time, no matter where they are – easily and discreetly. For further information click here The Red Dot Design Award 2012
